Using Pumpkin in Skincare : Pumpkin Powder and it's benefits

So since we are formulating with pumpkin for the remainder of the month, I thought it would be appropriate to introduce a fairly easy and effective way of introducing pumpkin into skincare and personal care products. Let's get into Pumpkin Powder.

WHAT IS PUMPKIN POWDER?

Pumpkin Powder is made from mature, fresh, premium pumpkins that have been washed, trimmed, cut, and dehydrated. The product is then sifted, sorted, graded, and irradiated to produce an aesthetically acceptable, cosmetic-grade ingredient.
INCI (International Nomenclature Cosmetic Ingredient ) name is: Cucurbita pepo fruit powder
WHAT KIND OF BENEFITS DOES PUMPKIN HAVE FOR THE SKIN? Pumpkin Powder is an excellent ingredient, with benefits for all skin types, especially environmentally damaged or sensitive skin. Rich in skin healing Vitamin A, anti-oxidant Vitamin C, and Zinc, pumpkin powder soothes, moisturizes, and acts as a carrier for other ingredients, allowing them to be absorbed deeper into the skin and intensifying the results. Pumpkin Powder has enzymes and antioxidants that offer results similar to gentle alpha-hydroxy action. It removes dead, dull cells while its beta-carotene-rich antioxidants nourish your skin, leaving it smooth and glowing. It also contains zea-xanthin, which works as natural sun ray filter for the body.

IS PUMPKIN POWDER GOOD FOR THE SKIN? LET'S GET DEEPER INTO PUMPKIN AND ITS BENEFITS IN SKINCARE!

Pumpkin is made up of alpha hydroxy acids (similar to glycolic acid and lactic acid), which are fruit acids that slough dead skin cells, increase cell turnover, and keep the skin glowing.

Pumpkin also has the added benefit of containing beta-carotene, a vitamin A derivative that decreases wrinkles, helps slough brown spots, and can help reverse UV damage.

Zinc is also plentiful in pumpkin, nature’s best healing agent, for its acne-preventing and skin-healing abilities.

Pumpkin is also loaded with vitamin C, which helps boost your body’s immunity to fight off colds, the flu, and infections, as well as helps fight sun damage and free radicals on the skin, preventing aging, wrinkles, and brown spots. Vitamin A is another pumpkin goodie it helps improve your vision, reduces the risk of cataracts of the eye, and minimizes acne scars.

OTHER WAYS YOU CAN USE PUMPKIN IN DIY AND FORMULATING SKINCARE:

1. You can use pumpkin powder as a natural colorant for bath bombs and soap bars. It works well for both Melt & Pour as well as Cold Process Soaps.
2. Pumpkin Powder is a very mild exfoliant when mixed into scrubs or gels.
3. You can add pumpkin powder to your water phase to lotions and creams to enhance their moisturizing and smoothing capabilities.
4. Add to Gel or Clay-based Face Mask for its antioxidant and alpha-hydroxy properties.

There are other ways to use Pumpkin in skincare like pumpkin puree, pump seed extract, and pumpkin seed oil. Pumpkin Seed Oil and Pumpkin Seed Extract are beginner-friendly ways to formulate and DIY with pumpkin. Pumpkin Powder is beginner/intermediate depending on how you use it and pumpkin puree is more advanced because preservation requires certain formulas. Also, using puree in a skincare formula requires a strong preservation system which could call for stronger preservatives that are not so green. You can get the same benefits by using Powder, Oil, Extract, and Glycerites!

I will be posting two skincare formulas on youtube https://www.youtube.com/c/BriMuhammad/ and www.greenwellnessinstitute.com so make sure you are subscribed to both and follow me on social media!
